Captain America - Civil War: 10 Characters Martin Freeman Could Be Playing

8. Captain Britain

Martin Freeman Captain Britain
Marvel Comics

Much like Paul Rudd, Martin Freeman doesn’t scream superhero, but having an everyman that doesn’t look like a Norse God play a masked crusader is somewhat refreshing. He does, after all, seem like a fairly solid representation of the standard British man, so he might as well embody that while in costume.

This would also represent a continuation of Marvel’s effort to globalize the Avengers. As started in Age of Ultron, the Avengers have established a global presence, so adding new heroes from new regions of the world makes sense. If they wanted to, they could also tie his origin into Malekith’s London invasion during Thor: The Dark World.

If need be, this could also allow him to fill a Speedball-like role on the team. In the comics, it’s Speedball’s poor judgement as an inexperienced hero that leads to a school full of children to be blown up. It would seem almost out of character for one of the existing Avengers to have such a screw-up, so it may be best for a new hero to fulfill that irresponsible role.

He is owned by Marvel, right?
