Captain America - Civil War: 10 Characters Martin Freeman Could Be Playing
4. Uncle Ben
Everyone knows who Uncle Ben is. Great power and responsibility and all that.
It would likely equate to a very minimal role in Civil War but with Spider-Man’s debut on the horizon, it would set him up to have a more essential role for that film.
A younger Peter Parker would likely mean a younger Uncle Ben. Much like how the age drop could aid a portrayal of Norman Osborn, this would also allow for a new spin on the narrative, rather than having an old man helplessly shot again. Emotionally, it could also sting to see a younger man, with more of his life in front of him, pass away so unjustly.
Uncle Ben's death is iconic, the catalyst for one of the greatest heroes ever, so having him played by an actor as likeable as Freeman would do wonders. Freeman unquestionably offers the requisite comfort and compassion to play dear Uncle Ben. As is the case with most of these possibilities, Civil War is already so crowded that the role would be limited, and it would seem strange to cast an actor so good and in-demand only to immediately kill him off.
