Captain America: Civil War - 10 Things You Need To Know About Baron Zemo

7. His Evil Dad Was Responsible For Freezing Captain America

While the movie will be presenting Helmut, the 13th Baron Zemo, his father and predecessor, Heinrich also has a long history with Captain America. We’re so used to seeing Cap in modern times that it’s easy to forget that he had plenty of adventures set in World War II.

As a Nazi scientist, Dr. Heinrich Zemo was a key player in the war. Not only was he fiercely loyal to the cause, he was an incredibly gifted scientist. He worked with an early version of HYDRA and was one of the first recurring villains that Cap faced.

The elder Zemo’s most infamous act came when he launched a rocket with Bucky and Cap attached to it. They got free but Bucky’s failed attempt to dismantle it before it landed and killed innocents resulted in his ‘death’ and Cap becoming frozen in the water below.

Heinrich’s story may be presented in flashback or simply relegated to a bit of dialogue from Helmut, but either way, he ought to be very influential character for both the hero and the villain in the film.
