8. The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Cross-Pollination
When promotional shots from the midseason premiere of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. showed Agent Coulson meeting up with the MCU's president, Matthew Ellis, it seemed assured that there'd be some link between the coming events of Civil War and the organisation. Obviously, we know that S.H.I.E.L.D. continue to be under suspicion because of the Sokovian disaster, and it is inevitable that whatever trigger happens at the start of Civil War (the film's version of the Stamford Incident from the comics) will have pretty much shockwaves for Coulson's organisation too.
Clark Greggs all but spelled it out to CBR..."Sokovia set them back in a big way. There's a lot of suspicion about S.H.I.E.L.D. and its connection with superheroes coming out of Age of Ultron. In a week or so, we start working on the script that will air during "Civil War" and I'm almost scared to read it to see what happens to poor S.H.I.E.L.D. in that. There are those who realize that the world needs S.H.I.E.L.D. President Ellis may be one of them, but it's still very much an underground organization that is illegal and hunted through most of the globe."
Rating: 5/10 That the show will reference the events of the film MCU clearly isn't up for debate - it's just a matter of how it plays, and right now it looks like it's going to come at a significant cost to S.H.I.E.L.D. unless they declare for team Iron Man. Whether the film will actually reference what's happening in the TV show is an entirely different matter...
