Alfre Woodard gives Tony Stark a guilt trip after his appearance at MIT, telling him about her son who was killed in Sokovia and basically making sure he signed the Sokovia Accords single-handedly. Her character is called Miriam, which is clearly a reference to Miriam Sharpe, a key figure in the Civil War comic books whose son is killed in the New York trigger event.

She's an outspoken supported of the Superhero Registration Act in the comics and takes to the media to pressurise the Avengers.

Woodard's involvement is also an Easter Egg of sorts, as Robert Downey Jr recommended her after working with her in Heart And Souls in 1993. In that she plays a ghost who helps guide his conscience before he goes all Sixth Sense and helps her cross over.

Downey Jr's interaction with Marisa Tomei is also a nod back to an old film the pair starred in together: Only You. He tried to woo her in that too.
