Captain America: Civil War - 5 Things Learned From D23 Footage

5. Redwing Will Feature - But Not In The Form You Expect

In Marvel lore, Redwing is Falcon's sidekick, an actual bird of prey who accompanies and aids Falcon in battle. The footage at D23 confirmed Redwing has a part in Civil War, but he looks a little different than you might expect. The character has been given a 21st century make-over, as he's now a mechanical drone. In the footage Falcon deploys Redwing from his flight-pack to help track down a car The Avengers are searching for. The drone activates and uses infrared to help ascertain the whereabouts of the vehicle. This suggests that Redwing is less of a combat feature and more of a sentry. The transition from bird to drone might seem a little controversial initially (I'm generally really down with killer hawks), but on further consideration it definitely suits the tone of prior flicks in this series, and indeed Falcon's modern military background, more agreeably. It would be a bit jarring to see Mackie's Falcon suddenly exhibit a random avian affinity, and whilst the visual element might have been cool, we're sure they'll make this work. Just don't expect any deep, Dr. Dolittle beats between Mackie and his flight-pack.
