Captain America: Civil War - 8 Characters Who Will Be Totally Different

7. Natasha Romanoff

One of the bigger surprises on the Civil War team lineup ended up being none other than Black Widow on Team Iron Man. While she made her MCU debut in an Iron Man flick, since then her role in the MCU has grown, as has her budding friendship with Captain America over the course of the last few movies. Not only does her alignment with Stark foreshadow some changes in her character for Civil War, but what Team Stark stands for implies that the old Black Widow is going to be firmly buried in the past. Anyone who is familiar with the comic book arc for which the upcoming movie is named knows that Tony Stark is championing a system of accountability for superheroes in the Marvel universe, undermining their privacy and potential freedom while promoting the security of the state and people that they are meant to protect. What this means for Romanoff€™s character is a Black Widow transformed; at the end of The Winter Soldier, we see her leak all of her past aliases and secrets out for the public to see her as she really is €“ now it€™s time for the Widow to truly overcome the secrecy, skeletons, and deeds of her past in order to stand for the values of Team Iron Man: security over liberty, no matter the personal cost.
