Captain America: Civil War - 8 Ways It'll Be Nothing Like The Comics
3. Spidey Won't Unmask
Spider-Man is the big new addition to Captain America: Civil War, finally swinging his way into the MCU. Naturally there's a lot of excitement about his role here, and not just because it's Spider-Man. He has a big part to play in Civil War in the comics, one of the most high-profile heroes to choose Tony Stark's side, and really aids the pro-registration team by deciding to unmask himself, despite the considerable risk to his family. As discussed earlier, there aren't any secret identities here, and as we're only just meeting Peter Parker in this film as a high-school kid, then his unmasking isn't going to make much sense or have any real impact. However, after Goliath's death at the hands of the Thor clone, and the discovery of the Negative Zone prison, he switches his allegiance to side with Captain America. He provides a lot of the story's heart, and is one of the main characters in it. This movie is introducing Spider-Man to the MCU, but because of the fact he isn't really established, as well as the issue that there's probably not going to be any Negative Zone or Thor clone or death of Goliath (though someone else could reasonably fill in for that part), it's going to be more a glorified cameo than a starring role.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
