In some ways, Peter Parker's wittiness and his love of a quip during battle is one of his most defining characteristics. In the previous two film iterations, his transformation from nerd to super arrogant hero never felt truly earned - it wasn't like Peter Parker was a disguise or a suppression of confidence to blend in, it was more like the act was put on when the mask was on.

That was fundamentally the wrong approach, and Civil War already addressed it. In presenting Peter as a frustrated jock bursting out of a nerd's body, it gave precedent and reason for him turning into a hyperactive quip machine in battle. This is what Peter wants to be, and not just the quiet nerd.

Having another hero who loves a quip while fighting might make some fear it's all going to be a bit much (and that's without Star-Lord even involved yet), but Civil War proved that characters like this bantering with one another can be a joy to watch. And Tom Holland has cut the perfect balance between snark and charm that mean he'd struggle to be unlikeable.
