Captain America: Civil War - 9 Rumours We Already Know Were Bullsh*t

3. Daniel Brühl Is Red Skull

The Rumour: This one goes a long way back, as it first started when Daniel Brühl was cast in a mysterious villain role for Civil War. A new version of Red Skull was mooted then, and although it's long-since been confirmed that the German actor is actually playing Baron Zemo in the movie, the rumours haven't gone away, with suggestions that Zemo will actually turn out to be the character.

Why It's Bullsh*t: It's understandable why this rumour would persist. Villains is an area where Marvel have struggled, and since Red Skull is one of the biggest they have, it wouldn't be a surprise if they wanted to use him again at some stage, and he'd be a huge ally for Thanos going forwards.

On the other hand, bringing back the Red Skull now would distract from Thanos, who is the one we're all supposed to be worried about in Phase Three. Then there's the fact that, if they were going to turn Daniel Brühl into Red Skull, why go to the trouble of introducing him as a different comic book character rather than some mystery figure? Baron Zemo has his own backstory and arcs, and that's who Brühl is in this movie, even if he doesn't have his iconic mask.
