Captain America: Civil War - 9 Rumours We Already Know Were Bullsh*t

2. It'll Closely Follow The Comics

The Rumour: Not so much a rumour as an expectation, caused by Marvel giving the third Captain America film this particular subtitle. Civil War was a huge comic book event, a sprawling series that included crossovers and changed the comics universe, and naturally once this film was called Civil War everyone expected it to follow that storyline, especially with the addition of Iron Man. Even now, it's not hard to find people who'll say 'x will happen in the movie' because that's how it goes in the comics.

Why It's Bullsh*t: Where to start? The movie has borrowed the title from the comics, and will run with the general theme of an ideological conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, one that splits the Marvel universe in two and forces the characters to choose sides.

But... there are a lot of differences. They don't have the rights to the Fantastic Four, for example, meaning that some of the biggest players in the comic cannot be used, thus changing the landscape already. There's no Reed Richards to work with Tony Stark, no Negative Zone to lock heroes in, and no Goliath to dramatically kill off. Nor will there be a Robot Thor to kill him, because actual Thor is still alive in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth isn't in the movie, and, well, just think about how ridiculous that would be on the big screen.

Then there's the fact that secret identities don't really exist in the MCU, meaning the whole reason for the war itself has changed, now dealing with the fallout from events such as Sokovia and the Battle of New York, and Spider-Man's role will be radically different - his unmasking won't have the same impact, so that iconic moment won't happen. Really, at this stage it'd be easier to list the similarities.
