Captain America: Civil War - 9 Theories On How The War Starts

1. Bucky

Despite everything else that's going on, it's very, very important to remember that Civil War is also just the next step in Bucky's character arc - and presumably the resolution of his Winter Soldier trauma, where he finds out some answers, overcomes final conflict and enjoys redemption. Unfortunately for him, it looks like he's going to be Black Panther's reason for invading the MCU. There are strong suggestions that both T'Challa and Tony Stark are going to be seriously pissed at Bucky for killing their parents, and that the government (and HYDRA) aren't exactly going to be thrilled with the idea of a former conditioned killing machine running around trying to find himself like some sort of university gap year back-packer. How It Would Work When it becomes clear that Bucky has resurfaced - probably thanks to T'Challa travelling to Europe to find him, and then ratting him out to SHIELD when he escapes his clutches - the Accords would be a pretty inevitable reaction. He is after all the walking embodiment of an unregulated wild card. The Evidence The set photos leaked from Germany definitely suggest T'Challa is on Bucky's trail, and the post-credits stinger from Ant-man also gave credence to the idea that Cap's defiance of the regulations (in harbouring Bucky when he finds him) are what bring him into conflict with Tony Stark. The Likelihood In combination with almost everything else on this list (other than the New Warriors), Bucky is the most likely cause for conflict between Iron Man and Captain America. Their personal links to him - murdered parents versus best friendship - both look bigger than principles, and their disagreement on what should happen to him would offer the most intriguing MacGuffin of all. What do you think will cause the war between Captain America and Iron Man's forces? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
