Captain America: Civil War - 11 Things That Definitely Won't Happen
6. The Death Of Goliath
Thanks to the lack of Thor (and the lack of any real need to clone him, because Tony Stark surely won't play God twice in a row), there'll be no-one to give Goliath (who as yet doesn't exist in the MCU) the fatal blow that proves a turning point in the War. It was an important part of the comic arc, as it signalled intent to actually kill real characters with real consequences, and foreshadowed Cap's death somewhat. But crucially, the context of the comics arc - and specifically how death is dealt with generally - meant that though the impact was major, the long-term implications were never going to be as permanent as a film audience might expect. The MCU is yet to really dabble in death and resurrection in a similar way, so killing off major characters has to be done less frivolously. But that doesn't necessarily mean someone other than Goliath won't die in his place... The Alternative So far, there have been several hints at the death of a MAJOR character in the film, which have thus far been underwhelmingly "explained" by shots of Peggy Carter's funeral, and the suggestion that Black Panther's dad might be incidentally murdered. The possibilities of a fringe member of the Avengers dying are pretty distinct, because so many of those figures are insufficiently developed. Few people would even blink if War Machine was killed off, or Falcon, or even Hawkeye (despite the tom-foolery of his dead meat status in Age of Ultron), because they're not exactly crucial. So if they do choose to kill a side-Avenger for impact, they've got a host of options.
