12. Hydra Are Behind This
No matter how many times the Avengers cut off the snake's head, it always seems to grow another one. Naturally, then, the evil organisation, which for so long hid in the shadows (or S.H.I.E.L.D.) is back at it, responsible for at least some of the film's events. Crossbones appears, and he's going to be working for them, and of course there's the shots of the mountains. Evil organisations tend not to learn from their mistakes, and instead are doomed to repeat them (see the Dark Side and Death Stars), and of course this means Hydra are once again choosing a mountainous backdrop for their base of operations. Within this base is when we get the definitive indication, although it's only on screen for a split second and you can't really see it, but when those doors open it's their logo on the wall. Hail Hydra!
