2. Steve Rogers Dies
In the Civil War comics, Steve Rogers died and left instructions for Bucky Barnes to take up the Captain America mantle. Steve was assassinated by HYDRA on the orders of the Red Skull. Crossbones sniped Steve from a distance, while the hero was being held in S.H.I.E.L.D custody after handing himself in. A brainwashed Sharon Carter then fired the killing blow from close up. Personally, I think the Captain America: Civil War movie will follow this beat for beat towards the end of its runtime. Itd be such a tragic death for the character, whos reached his lowest ebb here, having previously been so righteous and adored. And it would also be Marvels best way to tee up Bucky as the new Cap, something which they already teased in The Winter Soldier when he briefly held the shield. The only thing they might change is the brainwashed Sharon Carter bit, as that character already had a big reveal in The Winter Soldier (when she went from lovely neighbour to bad-ass secret agent very quickly). The Russos may not mind giving this character another twist, though, as it would give them another interesting story thread to dangle over into a future movie. But yes, I'm convinced that Steve Rogers will die at this stage of the movie, providing the 'controversial' ending that fans have been promised.
