In the comics, the Chitauri are shapeshifting aliens who were instrumental to Hitler's rise to power and helped weaponise the Nazis. While Captain America faced them during World War II, he found each of these extra-terrestrials to be astoundingly powerful, resilient, and hyper-intelligent.

But when the Chitauri were introduced in the The Avengers film, they were nothing more than Loki's grunts. Devoid of personality or dialogue, no one would blame you if you forgot what they looked like or what they were called. Although The Avengers movie is responsible for establishing the MCU as a bona fide franchise, it was a pity the Chitauri were underused.

An easy way to fix this problem is to introduce the most powerful Chitauri, Warbringer, into the MCU. Because this Avengers-level threat was the first foe Sam Wilson faced when he became Captain America, it feels right to introduce him in Captain America: New World Order.

Although fans would've been skeptical to see Cap face off against an alien at one point, modern viewers are pretty used to it now. Because we've seen Sam battle Chitauri, Outriders, Leviathans, The Black Order, and Thanos, it wouldn't be jarring to see him go head-to-head with a cosmic warlord. It would also be a well-deserved change of pace, since all the previous entries have Cap battling terrorists, Nazis, and Nazi terrorists.
