Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 10 Most Awesome Moments

5. The Captain's "Catch-Up" List

A very brief but ultimately brilliant moment towards the start of The Winter Soldier occurs when Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson - who later emerges as The Falcon - chats to the Captain about some of the things he might have missed out on whilst having been, you know, frozen in ice for 70 years. When Wilson suggests that Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man is all he needs to get acquainted with, the Captain writes it down in a little book that he uses to keep track of important events, people and movies that he's missed, which includes I Love Lucy, Steve Jobs and Star Wars. There's not enough time for us to glimpse everything in the Captain's book on first glance, but freezing the image reveals that the Berlin Wall, the Moon Landing, disco, Nirvana and Thai food have also been scrawled down. And this is an awesome moment mainly because it endears us to our hero and reminds us as to what a strange and bizarre situation he's in. And, of course, the thought of Captain America sitting down to watch Star Wars with a takeout order of Thai food is the stuff of cinematic dreams. All in all, this is one of the funniest Marvel gags yet.
