Captain Marvel: 10 Best Moments
10. The Stan Lee Tribute & Cameo
The movie catches fans off-guard right from the jump, with the usual Marvel Studios fanfare being redesigned to include various clips of Stan Lee, both from his cameos throughout the MCU and also general footage of him being his usual lovable self.
The opening signature concludes with a card simply reading, "Thank you, Stan." It was a super neat, dignified tribute to the Marvel legend and one which surely had many fans fighting back tears before the movie even started.
And typically, Stan the Man also gets his customary cameo in the movie proper, appearing as an old man taking the Los Angeles Metro during Carol's first chase sequence on Earth.
The masterstroke, though, is that Lee is reading a script for Kevin Smith's 1995 movie Mallrats, which he famously appeared in and delivered one of his most memorable cameos to date (dispensing sage dating advice to Jason Lee's Brodie).
If you listen carefully, you can even hear Lee rehearsing his lines out loud. It's one of Lee's more "subtle" cameos all things considered, but for fans of both the MCU and Kevin Smith movies, it was an hilarious touch.
