Captain Marvel: 10 Best Moments

9. The Los Angeles Chase

Though much of the movie's action suffers from sloppy editing, the first set-piece once Carol crash-lands on Earth is one of the easy highlights.

After crossing paths with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) she finds herself attacked by the Skrull, leading to a dynamic, breakneck chase across Los Angeles.

Carol pursues the Skrull operative onto the LA Metro system, whereby she ends up battling the Skrull as it assumes the form of an old lady.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) are giving chase on the streets below in their car, in what's surely an homage to William Friedkin's classic thriller The French Connection.

Carol's fight ends up spilling on top of the train as the Skrull assumes the identity of a new passenger, and it's revealed that Fury isn't in fact riding with Coulson, but rather a Skrull impersonating him. Thankfully Fury's subsequent car crash conveniently takes the Skrull out of commission.

This is the action sequence in the movie that feels the most distinctly evocative of the 1990s, encapsulating the period with its transit system and the city unfolding around the audience.
