Captain Marvel: 10 Best Moments

8. Maria's Reunion With Carol

Easily the most emotionally affecting moment in the film occurs when Carol, who is slowly beginning to piece together who she is, decides to visit her old Air Force pal Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch).

Maria is naturally shocked to learn that Carol didn't die in her hush-hushed accident with Dr. Wendy Lawson aka Mar-Vell (Annette Bening), as is her young daughter Monica (Akira Akbar).

Lynch gives arguably the most dramatically effective performance in the movie, even more so than Brie Larson, best evidenced by her impassioned speech to Carol about their friendship and how difficult it was to live without her for six years.

Lynch totally knocks it out of the park, and at the same time, it's not laid on too thick to be overwrought. Hopefully Maria might return in future MCU movies in some capacity, because the character's got way too much promise for a one-off.

Or perhaps more likely, we'll see her of-age daughter assume her comic book callsign, Photon.
