Captain Marvel: 10 Biggest Changes From The Comics
2. The Origin Of Carol's Powers
As we saw in the film, Carol received her powers when she was exposed to the Tesseract-powered FTL core, an origin far less convoluted than the one seen in the comics.
Originally, Danvers gained her abilities during her time with Mar-Vell: being caught in an explosion of a Kree device known as a psyche magnetron which merged Carol’s DNA with that of her alien boyfriend – giving her similar powers to him.
Then, in the recent Life Of Captain Marvel series by Margaret Stohl and Carlos Pacheco (spoilers, by the way), it’s confirmed that Carol’s mother was actually Kree the entire time and that the psyche magnetron only activated her powers, instead of giving them to her.
So, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all thankful that this element was changed.
