Captain Marvel: 12 Rumours That Were Utter Bull
8. Rick Jones Is In It
The Rumour: A casting call put out in late 2017 sparked rumours that frequent Marvel Comics sidekick Rick Jones would make an appearance in the film.
In the comics, Jones caused Bruce Banner's gamma-induced transformation into The Hulk and served as a confidante to not only Banner but also Captain American and Captain Marvel.
The casting call was for a "supporting lead male (35-59)" who "may be tied to a well-known character", and given both his friendship with Captain Marvel and his vital role in the Kree-Skrull War in the comics, the (admittedly vague) description certainly fit the bill.
The Truth: That's a negative. There's not even the slightest hint of Jones, and it makes one wonder exactly what role this casting call was for.
Curiously, the character was originally intended to appear in the 2008 Edward Norton-starring The Incredible Hulk, but Norton's script re-write removed Jones completely, and so he was relegated to a cursory name-drop in the film's opening titles. Shame.
