13. Annette Bening Eats A Punch. Literally

In a huge surprise - especially considering how much hinting there was that Jude Law was playing Mar-Vell - it turns out that Annette Bening is, in fact, playing the first Captain Marvel. Only she wasn't Captain Marvel, she was a Kree scientist whose conscience got the better of her and she turned her attentions towards helping the Skrull.

That's not the only role Bening plays though, as she is the form that Carol sees when she visits the Kree Supreme Intelligence. It's sort of the same logic as Goza making the Ghostbusters choose the tool of their own destruction. Once Carol finds out the Kree secret, she's forced to go and see the Intelligence once more, who essentially threatens to reprogramme her to keep her from destroying the empire.

Marvel then finds her inner strength and realises that the projected environment she's trapped in is no more than a Matrix and she is the Chosen One, so she fights back, which leads to her throwing a punch at Bening, who literally eats it. Her face swallows Carol's hand entirely in a moment of pure Looney Toons madness.
