14. Why Did They Leave The Science Guy Behind To Die?

After the twist is revealed and Talos escapes Earth with Captain Marvel, Monica, Nick Fury and Goose, their deception of Jude Law's Yon-Rogg is completed when Talos' science officer and apparent right-hand man is left behind on Earth in disguise to trick him. Naturally, Yon-Rogg discovers the truth when he asks Not-Vers about the blood transfusion that saved her life after the accident and he cannot answer.

This is a nice opportunity to reveal that Yon-Rogg gave Vers his blood and that he's capable of sniffing out Skrulls easily, but why exactly is this science officer left behind? To what end is he left to be slaughtered? It's not like it would have cost anything at all to the escape mission for him to come along with them?

He's only there to be killed, which seems like a gross misuse of one of Talos' few surviving allies.
