5. Why Doesn't Coulson Mention Captain America?

When Captain Marvel disappears to help the Skrulls find their fellow survivors and a new home, Nick Fury is left to count the cost of discovering that humans are not alone in the universe and that there are entities far more powerful than he could possibly have imagined. Naturally, he sets about establishing an initiative to bring together exceptional individuals, which is the exact same reason he gives for SHIELD developing weapons from the Tesseract after Thor and the Destroyer come to Earth...

Anyway, he tells weird, smooth-faced Agent Coulson about the initiative and Phil reacts with complete surprise at the very idea that there could be other superpowered inidividuals. The very concept is scoff-worthy to him, in fact. Which makes no sense, since Coulson's hero is one Captain America.

You know, the guy on the collectible cards he carries around with him. The guy known as a super soldier... The guy who should have been precedent and proof to him that it's not at all impossible for there to be other exceptional individuals out there...
