16. Holy Flerken Shnit!

We were told heading into Captain Marvel's release that Goose the cat was in fact not a cat and was a mysterious alien species called a Flerken. That's just as it was in the comics, where Chewie - Captain Marvel's cat on the page - was an alien unbeknownst to her (Rocket Raccoon initially revealed the truth).

What that means to most mainstream fans is very little indeed. Comics fans would have known what was coming, since a Flerken might look like a cat, but it comes with the kicker of tentacles that burst forth from its mouth and pocket universes inside it. Handy but terrifying, in other words.

It takes a while, but we get the reveal that Goose is indeed a Flerken when those tentacles are revealed when the Skrulls escape Kree captivity. It's like a Lovecraftian nightmare sequence and if you're unmoved by it, you have seen Oldboy too many times.
