Captain Marvel: 9 MCU Characters Who Could Appear

Back in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Alexander Pierce played a huge part in upending the MCU as we knew it when HYDRA was revealed to have infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., the character exposed as one of the modern day heads of the evil group. Fortunately, he and Project Insight were stopped, the character dead by the time the credits rolled, with only a few more mentions on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. coloring in his history, such as being the one responsible for Werner "Daniel Whitehall" Reinhardt's release in 1989.

With Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. playing a part in Carol Danvers' life in Captain Marvel, having Alexander Pierce pop up somewhere would be fascinating, as every word out of his mouth would be contextualized by the fact that we know he is secretly HYDRA. Not to mention, seeing him navigate around characters like Nick Fury or Peggy Carter would be quite engaging, and it's possible that whatever happens in the film could plant the seeds in his mind for the creation of Project Insight that would eventually go on, as we know, to take root following the Battle of New York in The Avengers.

At the least, having Pierce play a small role in the film would effectively further flesh out the MCU's own history, the character being an easy fit in the timeline, once again - like many of the other entries on this list - an inclusion that would feel more organic rather than pure fan service.
