Captain Marvel: 9 MCU Characters Who Could Appear
2. Peggy Carter
Since debuting in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter has turned up across the MCU's timeline in a number of different projects, ranging from further WWII flashback appearances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to her post-WWII adventures in Agent Carter to Ant-Man's 1989 flashback to the final time she was seen alive in 2014's The Winter Soldier. To put it lightly, she's had a huge role in the history of the franchise, thanks in large part to being one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founders.
By the time Captain Marvel takes place, Peggy will be somewhere in her 70s, and though we know she eventually leaves S.H.I.E.L.D. before The Avengers takes place, it's hard to imagine Marvel Studios passing up the opportunity to have her pop up again. After all, she's a popular character - and Hayley Atwell's performance in the role has always been praised - and there's a lot of fun to be had in having her still be at S.H.I.E.L.D. in the '90s.
The relatively recent death of Howard Stark could inform where her head is at going into Captain Marvel and how it has affected her role in the organization, but we could also learn whether she played a role in creating the original Avengers Initiative idea, maybe discover whether the man we learned she married in The Winter Soldier turned out to be Daniel Sousa or not, and, of course, get the pleasure of seeing the character finally interacting with characters like Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, the latter's reaction to meeting her in person considering his idolization of Captain America undoubtedly worth the wait.
