Captain Marvel: Everything We Know So Far

7. A New Origin Story

Although Captain Marvel is an origin story, it is changing the more traditional telling of Carol Danvers story, and it's because of DC. In the comics, Danvers is an Air Force pilot who has an encounter with alien technology, becoming half-Kree in the process. If that sounds familiar, it's because it's similar to what happened to Hal Jordan, a test pilot who encountered a dying alien, receiving his power ring and becoming a Green Lantern.

Writer Nicole Perlman spoke about wanting to avoid those comparisons, and Kevin Feige has since elaborated a little more, promising that it'll be "one of the most unique and inspiring origin stories."

Producer Nate Moore, meanwhile, told CinemaBlend that it'll subvert the structure of an origin story, so although this is going to be the first time we see the character, it's not going to be repeating patterns like those seen in Iron Man and Doctor Strange.
