Captain Marvel has telegraphed that Carol Danvers was an Air Force pilot since pretty much the first teaser, but her time spent in the service and what she actually got up to has been kept relatively secret. We know she's friends with Maria Rambeau, mother of Monica, who becomes the superhero Spectrum in the comics, but Marvel have elected to keep what she's been flying out of public view - until now.

Although Lashana Lynch's character has only made the occasional appearance in trailers - as she does here - fans should expect the character to play a significant role in the story. She's Carol's best friend, and it's clear that their time spent together before Danvers encounters the Kree will be pivotal to the character rediscovering their lost memories, with other TV spots having even shown Danvers reuniting with Maria's daughter, who's 11 in 1995.

What's really interesting here, though, is that it looks like Maria and Carol are test pilots for a specific program. We see Carol in her airmen uniform stand up and potentially volunteer later in the trailer, and the craft she's flying while avoiding what looks to be either a Kree or Skrull vessel looks very experimental too - especially for the early-to-mid nineties.
