Captain Marvel Super Bowl Trailer Breakdown: 10 Things You Need To See

9. Higher, Further Faster - What Does It Mean?

During the beginning of the trailer, when Carol and Maria are presumably gearing up to hop into their aircraft, Danvers says "higher, further faster baby". Tonally, this feels like something straight out of Independence Day's playbook, but the actual line itself is a callback to one of Captain Marvel's most important comics.

Since that first teaser released last year, the film's marketing has repeated three very important words: "Higher. Further. Faster." It's a great catchphrase, and really helps intimate the scale of the story and even of Danvers' own character, but it actually comes from the comics.

When discussing the character of Captain Marvel it is pretty much impossible not to mention Kelly Sue DeConnick. Together with artist Jamie McKelvie, the writer redefined the character and placed her at the forefront of Marvel's comics, with one of the most important story-arcs being "Higher, Further, Faster, More."

It's a great way of paying homage to the writer, especially since the Captain Marvel film in its current incarnation probably wouldn't even exist without the work DeConnick did at the start of the decade. Oh, and it sounds great too, which is a nice bonus.
