Casey Affleck: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

2. Patrick Kenzie - Gone Baby Gone (2007)

Being directed by brother Ben and filming on his home turf of Boston would have gone a long way to putting him completely at ease filming this adaptation of Dennis Lehane€™s cult classic detective novel. Not that he had to be put at ease, considering the caliber of acting talent he€™s in constant possession of, that bleeds out of every scene within Gone Baby Gone - notably his opening monologue, and the anguish written all over his face in the final scene, the two playing out as symbiotic bookends. As local sleuth Patrick Kenzie, Casey brings together the classic gumshoe code-of-honour with the rough-and-tumble, everybody-knows-everybody's-dirty-laundry Bostonian-neighbourhood vibe perfectly. Gone Baby Gone is a film that rewards multiple viewings, which is a rare thing to say for a film of its nature - and a huge part of that is Casey Affleck€™s anchoring performance.
