As far as the rumoured actors go, it is hard to think of one with a more varied career than Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

After his breakout performance in 2009’s John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, Taylor-Johnson has gone on to appear in genres stretching from historical romance in 2012’s Anna Karenina to blockbuster science-fiction in 2014’s Godzilla.

He has also managed to fill these roles to significant acclaim, with his performance in Tom Ford's 2016 thriller Nocturnal Animals gaining him both a Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination.

Given his previous experience portraying a musical icon, Taylor-Johnson seems like an obvious choice for the role. However, as Nowhere Boy only focused on Lennon's teenage years before the formation of The Beatles, this experience is certainly no guarantee of success.

In addition, despite parts in major franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Legendary's Monster-verse, Taylor-Johnson has failed to deliver much of a screen-stealing impact on Hollywood.

Whilst this may not usually be a major issue for most film roles, when inhabiting the role of one of the 20th century's most famous icons, a self-assured swagger is certainly going to be a requirement.

Ultimately, despite having one of the most impressive CVs on paper, Taylor-Johnson just isn't the right match for The King.
