Casting The Fantastic Four In The MCU

1. Writer/Director - James Gunn & Nicole Perlman/Gunn

Weird, charming, and often dysfunctional, the Guardians of the Galaxy have served as a de-facto family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all under the guidance of James Gunn.

An evident comic book fan, Gunn has a great understanding of Marvel characters, which is likely to apply to the Fantastic Four too. And as he's overseeing the cosmic arm going forwards, he's a great fit to bring the Fantastic Four to Earth but with some of those more cosmic elements as well. He knows how to find some real emotion in his story, but balance it with having a lot of fun too.

Guardians 2, however, perhaps showed that he needs a little help on the script, which is where Nicole Perlman comes in. She's another writer with a great understanding of Marvel, especially some of the more out-there elements (she co-wrote Guardians 1, served as a consultant on Thor, and penned the first draft of Captain Marvel), and she should balance some of Gunn's sensibilities, where he might otherwise have a tendency to let his own ideas and fancies run unchecked.

As a director, Gunn has shown a great knack for visuals, which would help bring the Fantastic Four to life, and can work brilliantly with mo-cap and voice actors too, while the first Guardians especially is a sign of how he can blend action, drama, and comedy perfectly.
