CASTLEVANIA is closed

Sometimes this damn writers strike can have a positive effect for us movie fans. Or maybe just a delay in an inevitable shitty movie. The Rogue Pictures movie adaptation of the video game CASTLEVANIA has been postponed and the $40 million project will now get off the ground whenever a deal can be reached with writers over this strike, so Paul W.S. Anderson's script can go through some necessary tweaking. CASTLEVANIA was originally pitched with the tagline "Dracula Begins" and is to focus on Vlad the Impaler and the members of the family who unleashed a vampire legend. With so many DRACULA projects in development right now, this film is still a big priority for Rogue Pictures and they seem desperate for it to be made despite this setback. Sylvain White (STOMP THE YARD) stays attached and hopefully this break on the project will make them realise how crap Anderson's script really is. Not that I've read it or anything but when you consider he wrote ALIEN vs. PREDATOR and RESIDENT EVIL, I have little hope for this hack's current draft. Another project that Variety say has become a victim of the strike is Kevin Reynold's movie on the life of William Tell titled IRONBOW. I didn't even know this project was still being made, so I can't say that this development is much news to me, because I already thought it was delayed. The project if it is to go ahead after the strike, will see Reynolds re-team with the guy who wrote his COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO movie. I would expect some more movies to tumble as we move quicker to the dates when pre-strike flick will actually need to begin filming, instead of just talking about it.
