Cats 2019: Every Song Ranked From Least To Most Horrifying
5. Grizabella: The Glamour Cat
The content of this song isn't particularly outlandish, but it's got a vaguely threatening air about it that hearkens back to the opening sequence, where the cats may or may not enact bodily harm upon Jennifer Hudson's Grizabella for being a pariah among their cat death cult.
The other cats sing about how Grizabella doesn't belong with them, while giving Victoria the chance to feel sorry for her, is undercut by the way Hudson (or to be fair to her superb acting chops, the director) can't seem to decide whether she should stand and walk on twos or get down on all fours, an watching her go from standing with a slouch of shame and fear to slowly getting down and crawling away on her knees beggars belief.
It's this kind of bizarre mess of not knowing how much cat and how much human should be put into their movements that characterises the entire film, and despite how impressive the VFX team is for animating ears and tail to match emotions, it just makes the end result more disturbing as a whole.
