Cats Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

4. Rebel Wilson & James Corden's Terrible Performances

Cats James Corden

Though most of the performers do the best they can with the material, there are two actors whose turns in the film are actively irritating - and that's Rebel Wilson and James Corden.

As Jennyanydots, Wilson is basically just acting out a feline version of her usual shtick, and she lacks the ripe singing voice to make it all worthwhile.

Her aforementioned musical number is at least amusingly weird, though that's more for the off-the-wall visuals than anything she contributes to the movie.

And then there's James Corden, who gives a deeply grating performance as Bustopher Jones, delivering lame "comic relief" and a totally flat musical number.

It doesn't help that both Wilson and Corden's characters make a ton of lazy fat jokes. Are we really not past this in 2019?
