Charlize Theron: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

1. Aeon Flux - Aeon Flux (2005)

Only the most ardent of fans of the original anime would have anything positive to say about Aeon Flux. Having just won Best Actress for Monster, Theron pulled a Halle Berry by pulling on lycra and high-kicking boots and making an entirely underwhelming adaptation that went way too serious and missed the point.

Aeon Flux seemingly ignored the fact that the original source was delightfully, self-consciously daft and went instead for a more solemn approach. Obviously it scores points for not overtly sexualising Theron's lead, but they could have at least spent some time on the characterisation and substance to go with the style.

It takes a lot to make a film in which Theron is actually less likeable than she was as Aileen Wuornos, but this wayward dystopian sci-fi (nowhere near as good as 2002's Equilibrium) manages it effortlessly.
