5. Jake Wyler - Not Another Teen Movie (2001)

It makes sense that Chris Evans' career started here; his handsome looks and cheesy grin made him ripe for the role of a high school jock, and it's a part that he pulls off with a surprising amount of likeability.

Not Another Teen Movie isn't the best spoof flick in the world, of course, but it is consistently funny and does manage to parody classic teen movies of the 80s.

As Jake Wyler, "The Popular Jock" tasked with turning unattractive nerd Janey Briggs into Prom Queen in order to seek revenge on his cheating girlfriend, Evans is without question the best thing in the film, injecting Jake with an underlying innocence and goofiness that somehow makes a strictly one-dimensional character into a human being (sort of); he also shows brilliant comic timing in his line delivery.

It was here that Hollywood first sat up and took notice of Evans, not knowing how hard it would be to find appropriate roles for this guy in the future - or that Evans aspired to playing more interesting and complex characters than "the jock."
