And 5 Performances That Sucked...

5. Johnny Storm - Fantastic Four (2005)

It isn't really Chris Evans' fault that his take on Johnny Storm turned out so naff; the entire film is a clumsy affair, and one in which - giving how bad it is - Evans just manages to walk away from with the remnants of his dignity still in tact. Just.

Still, it absolutely stands as one of his worst performances because it asks nothing substantial of the actor, except to play a one-dimensional frat boy. Evans isn't allowed to do anything with his Johnny Storm other than read his lines in the same repetitive, smug voice, so naturally it feels like a half-assed effort on his part.

It must be considered that Fantastic Four was intended for family audiences, which explains the goofy tone and Disney Channel aesthetics - we were never going to get a deep and thoughtful take on The Human Torch, were we? And despite the relatively one-note nature of his performance, Marvel clearly saw something in the actor because they feverishly pursued him to play Captain America thereafter.

Doesn't stop this character's self-satisfied schtick from driving you crazy, though.
