2014 wasn't just Chris Pratt's year thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy alone, as he actually took the lead in two of the years best loved movies. Based on the simple construction toy system, The Lego Movie proved to be a film of many layers that not only entertained children (and adults) with it's silly and slapstick humour, but is also the best depiction of a dystopian society since George Owell's 1984. Though his voice may have gone unnoticed alongside the likes of Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, and Liam Neeson, Pratt's Emmet Brickowski is undoubtedly the hero. Believed to be The Special, "the greatest, most interesting, most important person of all times", a chance meeting with Wyldstyle means his bland life will never be the same again. A double decker sofa might not make him a master builder, but he does manage to find it within himself to thwart the uniform plans of the evil Lord Business. Far from an action hero of Batman's calibre, he does so in the way that only a Chris Pratt character could: underneath his faults it's the fact that he's a nice guy which shines through. The film's resounding success meant a sequel was soon announced, which is currently set for a 2018 release. Three more years might be a long wait, but with another outing for Emmet confirmed, and a career that's growing from strength to strength, Jurassic World is just one of many films which confirms that for Chris Pratt and his new found fans, everything truly is awesome.
