Christopher Nolan: Everything We Know About His 2020 Film 'Tenet'
6. It's An IMAX Event
Nolan is a big fan of IMAX, and often aims to shoot large portions of his films using the format. If you've been to see one of his films in an IMAX cinema before (or you own one on Blu-Ray) then you'll already know what this means: certain parts of the film will fill out the whole screen due to being shot with IMAX cameras, while the majority of the film remains letterboxed. He's used this on most of his releases since The Dark Knight, and his latest will be no different.
For Tenet, Nolan will be shooting using a mix of IMAX cameras and 70mm film, meaning that he's going BIG on his latest release, which fits with its description as an event film. That means it'll fall more in line with his spectacle-heavy films like Inception, The Dark Knight and Dunkirk, as opposed to relatively smaller fare like The Prestige and Memento.
The word "event" also indicates the film will contain a good amount of action, with enough thrills to please general moviegoers over the summer. In addition, it's pretty much a given that the film will be rated PG-13, 12, or 12a: a big summer event needs to be tailored for the widest possible audience.
Plus, each one of Nolan's films - barring Memento, Following and Insomnia - has been given a family-friendly rating, so it makes sense that the 2020 project will have one too.
