Cold Pursuit Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down

1. It's Liam Neeson's Best Thriller Since The Grey

And finally, it's worth emphasising just how uncharacteristic - and just how damn good - this film is compared to Liam Neeson's usual genre thriller joints.

This is easily his best movie in the genre since 2011's The Grey, a similarly expectation-defying film which was marketed as "Liam Neeson punches wolves" and turned out to be something far more poignant and meaningful.

Though he's certainly delivered some solid escapist entertainment in the interim - Walk Among the Tombstones in particular - Cold Pursuit is a far more successful and interesting film than any thriller Neeson has made since The Grey, while avoiding the overly commercialised whiff that accompanies his more conventional work.

In short, you shouldn't discount this film just because it might look like it sits comfortably alongside his more workmanlike genre forays: this is bold and ambitious work that deserves your attention.
