7. The Family Stone 2
2005's Christmas dramedy The Family Stone may have earned mixed critical reviews for its wildly uneven tone, but it was an easy box office smash, albeit one whose singular premise didn't exactly invite an easy sequel.
And generally speaking, filmmakers would want to produce a follow-up while the central cast members are still alive, but in the case of the recently announced The Family Stone 2, the case was quite the opposite.
A month after the passing of star Diane Keaton last October, original writer-director Thomas Bezucha announced that he was now writing a sequel in an attempt to honour Keaton.
Now in fairness, Keaton's character Sybil dies of cancer at the end of the original film, so her absence won't require any explaining, but as hit films clamouring for sequels go, The Family Stone would certainly be pretty low down the pile.
If Bezucha can convince most of the ensemble cast to return, though - namely Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Luke Wilson - he just might be onto something.
