20 Upcoming Movie Sequels You Had NO IDEA About

17. Crimson Tide 2

Tony Scott's 1995 submarine thriller Crimson Tide was a critical and commercial hit, propelled forward by reliably terrific performances from Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.

But it also seemed like a total one-off movie, especially as there wasn't much of a concerted effort to get a sequel made in the years, even the decades, that followed.

But last July, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that Crimson Tide 2 was already in development, with a writer working on the script and a "really good director" attached to helm.

Yet with Hackman passing away last year following a lengthy retirement, the big question mark is the involvement of Washington, who Bruckheimer believes will star if they give him a good enough script.

For his part, Washington has proven more open to sequels in recent years, having starred in three Equalizer movies of wildly mixed quality, so as long as a passably decent script is put to paper, it seems like Crimson Tide 2 will actually happen all these years later.
