16. Harold & Kumar 4
Harold & Kumar is perhaps the greatest of all the stoner comedy franchises, largely thanks to the endearing performances from John Cho and Kal Penn and the series' continual, hilarious subversion of stereotypes.
But with the release of 2011's A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, it certainly seemed like a trilogy of well-received, modestly successful films was a good run for the duo.
Plus, with Cho graduating onto bigger-budget projects like J.J. Abrams' Star Wars franchise and Penn becoming more involved in politics - even working at the White House during the Obama administration - it seemed like the pair had simply outgrown Harold & Kumar.
But last June, Lionsgate announced that Harold & Kumar 4 was now in the works, with Cho and Penn both set to return alongside franchise writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.
It'll certainly be interesting to see what a Harold & Kumar movie looks like today, with weed culture and the world as a whole having changed so much over the last 15 years.
Hurwitz and Schlossberg offered a hint by stating the sequel would see the duo "puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation," and that they would now have kids.
Considering the impressive consistency of the original trilogy, there's good reason to be optimistic about this one as belated comedy sequels go.
