20 Most Divisive Movie Scenes Ever

19. Fabienne Wants A Pot Belly - Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction
Miramax

Though Pulp Fiction is undeniably one of the most beloved films of the 1990s and really ever, there is one character who is certainly an acquired taste for audiences - Butch's (Bruce Willis) girlfriend Fabienne (Maria de Medeiros).

Some viewers find her demeanour grating and that her chatter with Butch stops the narrative dead - especially the exchange where she talks about wanting a pot belly because she thinks they're sexy on women.

It's a common sentiment that this is some of the movie's least engaging conversational dialogue which Quentin Tarantino otherwise handles so well, and that it could've perhaps even been left on the cutting room floor.

And yet to many others, the exchange provides a welcome humanising moment of levity for Butch, who otherwise spends the movie doing Very Serious Things, in addition to the subtext that Fabienne may be implying she's pregnant or at least wishes to be.
