20 Most Divisive Movie Scenes Ever

1. Peter Parker's Dance - Spider-Man 3

Even the most generous of viewers will struggle to deny that Spider-Man 3 was a massive disappointment for many reasons, though there's a single scene that continues to be feverishly debated to this very day - that damn emo dance.

After Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) becomes infected with the symbiote, he adopts an emo hairstyle and his personality undergoes a massive shift, becoming arrogant and over-confident - pretty much the anti-Peter Parker.

This leads to a montage in which Peter dances down the street, attempting to woo various women he walks past, most of whom seem intensely wary of his presence.

For many, the cringe was simply too much to bear, especially as it was expected that the symbiote would give us an edgier iteration of Peter Parker and Spider-Man - not some cornball strutting around with finger guns on the streets of New York.

But some will argue that this is very much the point - Peter's symbiote-infused concept of what's "cool" is actually resoundingly lame, and of course Sam Raimi of all filmmakers was always going to lean into the silliness with full force.
