20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
8. When Evil Lurks
From the logline alone, When Evil Lurks may sound like a pretty typical possession story in which a demonic plague spreads through a rural town, but this deeply sinister Argentine chiller is one of the most deep-seated, viscerally unsettling films of its kind in recent times.
Every second of this film is absolutely soaked in dread, and unlike superficially similar Hollywood efforts, writer-director Demián Rugna has little interest in clearly defining the rules or giving the audience a clear internal logic to cling to.
Horrifically violent mayhem is the order of the day, and again unlike most Hollywood variations, this take goes to some extremely rough and upsetting places in terms of its violence and who said violence is meted out against.
Basically, nobody feels safe nor is anyone spared a brutal on-screen demise simply because they appear to be a "good" person.
This is fearless, shocking filmmaking and an absolute breath of fresh air in the subgenre, even if it'll undeniably be too strong for many.
