20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut

13. The Spider Pit - King Kong (1933)

An oldie but a goodie now with the original 1933 King Kong and its absolutely infamous spider pit sequence.

In the initial cut of the film shown to preview audiences, Kong shook some of the crew members off a log, causing them to fall into a canyon below where they were consumed by giant insects, spiders, reptile-like creatures, and a tentacled monster.

However, because preview audiences reportedly left the film early due to the disturbing nature of the scene, studio RKO considered it too gruesome and insisted that it be removed in its entirety.

Frustratingly, the footage of the scene is now lost, save for a few stills, though for the home video extras of his 2005 remake, Peter Jackson did recreate the scene using the few pre-production drawings and photos that still exist.

All the same, it's a damn shame that such a fascinating sliver of cinematic history will probably never see the light of day.
